Seeing Gu Pei in high spirits after the exam, Gu Yang asked, “How did it go, Brother?”
“Not bad,” Gu Pei replied confidently. “The College Entrance Examination here was pretty easy—much simpler than last year’s in Jin City.”
With Gu Yang and the others scoring full marks, Gu Pei wasn’t content with merely getting into Hua University or Capital University. He aimed for the highest possible score, so he had been studying intensely. Now that the exam was over, he found himself suddenly relaxed, though he wasn’t quite used to it.
Gu Pei plugged in his phone to charge and then called Gu Yang. “Sister, are you up for some gaming? I can join you.”
Though Gu Yang wasn’t particularly fond of games and had come to terms with her lack of skill after a few tries, she had some free time now and agreed to play with Gu Pei.
They played a 5v5 game, with Gu Pei inviting three others: Qin Xian, Qin Shuling, and his childhood friend, Feng Duxing, who had come from Jin City.
Gu Yang played as Flower Fairy. Although her skills were lacking, Gu Pei’s protection ensured she didn’t die too often.
Those playing with Gu Pei knew Gu Yang was his sister and that she wasn’t very skilled. They didn’t mind and even went out of their way to protect her. Meanwhile, the opposing team started to grumble.
Just as the complaints were growing, Gu Pei charged in, taking down the opponents and sending them back to the resurrection point.
In mid-June, the College Entrance Examination results were released.
Gu Pei’s results were initially kept under wraps, but both the principals of Hua University and Capital University’s admissions offices came to visit him on the same day.
Principal Huang of Capital University arrived in person, and Gu Zhaoming personally welcomed him. Even Old Master Gu, who had retired from public life, came out to receive the guests.

As Principal Huang entered, he couldn’t help but sigh. “I’ve been watching Gu Pei’s results closely. He truly didn’t disappoint us.”
Principal Li of Hua University also smiled and said, “Why don’t you consider coming to Hua University as well? Our family is fully united.”
Hearing both Principal Huang and Principal Li, Old Master Gu was especially pleased and looked noticeably more energetic. “That depends on Pei’s decision.”
Gu Pei, however, was more focused on finding out his score. “Principals, how many marks did I get?”
Principal Huang replied with a smile, “742. You scored full marks in Mathematics and English, had two marks deducted in Science, and six marks deducted in Chinese.”
Gu Pei’s heart raced.
This was the highest score he had achieved since starting his third year of high school. His usual score hovered around 730, so hitting 740 was a significant achievement.
Despite having three top scorers in his family, Gu Pei was determined to excel and not let his family down. However, he was realistic about his abilities. Even with guidance from top scorers, achieving perfect scores in all subjects was beyond his reach.
Principal Li of Hua University remarked with a hint of amusement, “Are you not satisfied with just missing full marks? This score is the top in the capital this year.”
Gu Pei grinned. “I’m satisfied.”
The Gu family was in high spirits.
Gu Zhaoming clapped Gu Pei on the shoulder. “You’ve made us proud, rascal.”
Principal Li added with a smile, “Four top scorers in one family—this is an unprecedented achievement.”
When members of the second and third branches visited the old residence to see Old Master Gu, they encountered the two principals from Hua University and Capital University vying for Gu Pei’s attention.
The rivalry between the third and first branches seemed to dissolve in the face of such a grand occasion. Although Gu Zhaoye felt a twinge of jealousy, he kept his feelings in check, especially with Gu Shuzhi present, and offered his congratulations without any complaints.
The second branch, however, was less pleased.
Gu Shuda, a known spendthrift, didn’t care much about academic results. He was more interested in boasting about having a top scorer cousin to his friends.
Gu Shuxue, on the other hand, was consumed by jealousy. She remained silent, brooding over the fact that while her father had once had a chance to become the Family Head and she had been a standout in both the family and social circles, any member of the eldest branch now seemed to surpass her.
