Chapter 563: 562 I am willing
The atmosphere within the room suddenly froze.
Time seemed to freeze in that moment. Observing the stern look in Mo Xiuchen’s eyes, his warm and handsome features abruptly turned cold. The curve of his lips faded, thin lips pressed into a straight line of resolve.
Resentment was faintly discernible in his deep, still eyes, their gaze fixed upon her.
Wen Ran too was scared to speak. She softly pursed her lips, lowered her head out of guilt, and looked like a child who’d done something wrong and was afraid of reproach.
She already knew that her words would anger Mo Xiuchen, but she said them anyway. Because she could no longer satisfy him in certain ways, and she couldn’t bear to see him hold back anymore.
Besides agreeing to let him find another woman, she had no other solution.
It wasn’t a pregnancy, where things could improve after a few months of abstinence. With her condition, they could never be intimate again.
After a long pause, Mo Xiuchen finally broke the silence, his voice cold yet sounding repressed, and somewhat lost, “Ranran, in your eyes, am I that type of man?”
The words caught Wen Ran off guard, making her heart flutter. She urgently raised her head to look at Mo Xiuchen, and seeing his disappointed gaze, she quickly explained, “No, that’s not what I meant.”
“What do you mean?”
Mo Xiuchen stared at her, his tone becoming somewhat into aggressive.
At this moment, his usual warm elegance was gone, replaced with an oppressive air. Wen Ran’s words had truly hurt his heart.
She had actually suggested he find another woman.
Seeing him visibly angered, Wen Ran regretted her words. In fact, when she said them, her heart hurt terribly.
No woman could bear to see her husband with another woman. She loved him; how could she nonchalantly allow him to turn to someone else? The mere thought made her heart ache unbearably.
But she also didn’t want to see him endure. It was indeed a dilemma.
“I don’t want you to push yourself for me, Mo Xiuchen. You know about the poison in my body. It could be transferred to you in that way. So, promise me you won’t touch me.”
As she said this ignoring his lingering resentment, she earnestly looked at him.
Mo Xiuchen’s eyes flickered. He knew she would make this request. Nonetheless, hearing her set down such conditions hurt him deep inside.
“Ranran, Fu Jingyi lied to you.”
He tried to persuade her.
But Wen Ran resolutely shook her head, a certain stubbornness shining in her eyes, “No, I know this is true. Mo Xiuchen, this is the only thing I ask of you. If you promise, I swear to stay by your side until my life runs out.”
Her underlying implication was clear: if he did not agree, she would still leave.
“I had a medical check-up last time, and the results were normal. Ranran…”
“Won’t you agree?”
Wen Ran abruptly interrupted him. She wouldn’t believe his words. She later questioned Gu Kai who initially denied any abnormality in Mo Xiuchen’s health. Only after persistent questioning did Gu Kai reluctantly admit the truth.
This was why she had repeatedly tried to leave him and discouraged him from touching her.
Mo Xiuchen’s heart ached. He looked deeply at the stubborn young woman in front of him, and finally, helplessly, nodded, “Alright, I promise you.”
Hearing his agreement, Wen Ran felt a weight lifted off her chest and a faint smile immediately appeared on her face. She got out of bed, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him. She softly said, “I’m hungry.”
Mo Xiuchen’s heart, which throbbed with pain just a moment ago, instantly softened. He smiled, lightly touched her hair by her ear, and took hold of her hand. His voice was deep and gentle, “Nanny Zhang has prepared the food. Let’s go downstairs for lunch.”
“Okay!”
Wen Ran’s smile brightened, her eyes reflecting her joy. As if to comfort his disappointed heart, she not only didn’t pull away from his grasp but intertwined her fingers with his voluntarily.
Mo Xiuchen’s gaze deepened, a pleasant smile curved his lips. Hand in hand, they left the room and walked downstairs. Upon reaching the dining room, Wen Ran pulled out a chair for him. She smiled and said, “Sit, Mo Xiuchen. I’ll go to the kitchen and help Nanny Zhang.”
“Hmm.”
Mo Xiuchen gracefully took his seat, watching Wen Ran walk briskly out of the dining room to the kitchen to help serve the food. He turned his body to gaze at her retreating figure until it was no longer in sight, then he withdrew his eyes.
The smile that was on his lips vanished instantly, the depth of his intense gaze hiding a whirlpool of emotions.
Soon, Wen Ran came in carrying two plates of food. From a distance, she laughed and called, “Xiuchen, Nanny Zhang cooked a lot of dishes for lunch today.”
Hearing her voice, the tide of emotions in Mo Xiuchen’s eyes dispersed rapidly. As he turned his gaze to Wen Ran, a doting smile appeared in his eyes, looking warm, noble, and elegant.
Wen Ran blinked, carried food to the table, and picked up a piece of meat, putting it directly into Mo Xiuchen’s mouth. After cooperating and eating it, Wen Ran smiled happily and turned to leave the dining room.
Throughout the meal, Wen Ran doted on Mo Xiuchen, not allowing him to do anything. Even things like serving soup and rice were completely handled by her. Mo Xiuchen did not dispute with her. Looking at her vibrant and radiant smile, he grinned and joked, “Ranran, if you keep this up, you’ll spoil me.”
“Spoil you, then.”
Wen Ran playfully responded, put a peeled shrimp into his plate and smiled, “I’m happy to!”
“Then I have to change my profession and be a kept man.”
Without a rush, Mo Xiuchen elegantly picked up the shrimp and put it into his mouth. After chewing and swallowing it leisurely, he drawled out his words.
Wen Ran glared at him, “You’re so rich, why would you need to be kept?”
With her words, the smile in Mo Xiuchen’s gaze deepened. He simply put down his chopsticks, took out his wallet from his pocket, and directly handed it to Wen Ran.
“What is this for?”
Wen Ran looked puzzled at him handing his wallet to her.
Mo Xiuchen nonchalantly said, “To be able to be a kept man, I’ll give you all my wealth and properties. The money and cards in this wallet, including my identification, are all yours now. From now on, you’re my provider!”
Wen Ran thought she had misheard. She stared blankly at Mo Xiuchen, who put the wallet in her hand, and then smiled contentedly, “Ranran, now I’m a penniless bum with nothing to my name. From now on, I’ll rely on you!”
Only then did Wen Ran regain her composure. She inspected the contents of the wallet carefully. After verifying the stack of cards, identification, and cash, she placed the wallet aside, nodded briskly, and said, “No problem, I’ll provide for you from now on!”
As she said this, she puffed out her chest. Despite being six years younger than Mo Xiuchen, she put on a big sister act that made him chuckle.
