“Mo Xiuchen, I heard…”
Mo Xiuchen walked out of his office and bumped into Luo Haofeng, who had received a call from Gu Kai and was looking for him. However, Mo Xiuchen cut off Luo Haofeng as soon as he started to speak. “Cheng Jia is in there. Go in and deal with it,” he said.
“What Cheng Jia, I came to see you…”
Luo Haofeng paused and was again dismissed by Mo Xiuchen. Looking at Mo Xiuchen’s retreating back, Luo Haofeng frowned but resignedly went into the office to deal with the trouble.
Upon entering, he saw Cheng Jia limping from the front of the sofa. Luo Haofeng obliquely narrowed his eyes into a sharp slit, his gaze sweeping over her swollen red eyes and finally resting on her leg.
Surprise flashing across his eyes and a touch of mockery curling his lips, he said, “Cheng Jia, what are you playing at? Managed to irritate Mo Xiuchen enough for him to leave?”

At Luo Haofeng’s mockery, Cheng Jia’s face turned white, and anger rose in her heart. With a tight-lipped, faltering explanation, she said, “Mo General’s annoyance was due to Wen Ran, not me. I just heard that he hadn’t had lunch, so I bought lunch for him.”
“Lunch?”
Taking long strides into the room and looking at her leg, Luo Haofeng said, “You bought lunch for Mo Xiuchen and it ended up on your leg. You didn’t think of spilling it on your leg and then having Mo Xiuchen eat it, did you? You really have a disgusting mind. Does Mo Xiuchen seem like that kind of person to you?”
“I didn’t do that.”
Accused wrongly by Luo Haofeng, irritation surfaced on Cheng Jia’s face. Her leg was in severe pain and she didn’t want to argue with him here. Biting her lip, she tried to leave.
“Wait a moment.”
Just as Cheng Jia stood up to leave, Luo Haofeng stopped her.
“What else do you want?”
Cheng Jia halted her steps, turned around, and looked at Luo Haofeng, who had just walked over to the sofa.
“You messed up Mo Xiuchen’s office and think you can just leave without cleaning up. Do you want to be fired by Mo Xiuchen? He just told you to clean up before you leave.”
Luo Haofeng frowned in disgust. Originally, the food wasn’t bad, but once it had fallen onto the ground, the odour it gave off was unbearable.
It was even worse to look at!

Cheng Jia’s face changed colour again. She looked at Luo Haofeng, then down at the food on the floor, and coldly said, “I’ll call for the janitor to handle this.”
“Cheng Jia, you spilt the food and you’re calling for the janitor to clean it up? You’re really pushing it. Fine, go ahead and call if you don’t want to work for the company anymore. I promise, you can collect a full paycheck and leave tomorrow.”
A cold smile played at the corners of Luo Haofeng’s mouth. Although his voice was not loud, it was nonchalant, yet Cheng Jia felt a slight tremor in her heart.
“Luo Haofeng, don’t overstep.”
The rage she had been suppressing surged, her anger directed at Luo Haofeng who had been getting on her nerves from the beginning, just as she got on his nerves.
Unfazed by her anger, Luo Haofeng simply raised an eyebrow and walked over to sit down on another sofa. He leaned back casually and said, “The longer you drag this out, the harder it’ll be to get rid of the smell. You surely know that Mo Xiuchen hasn’t been in a good mood these days. If you insist on pushing his limits, don’t come crying later.”
Cheng Jia drew in a deep breath and looked at her leg. She had spilled all of the soup on her leg earlier, and wherever the hot soup had scalded her, a sharp pain ensued.
But she couldn’t afford to get fired. She had studied hard overseas for three months and had done all she could to bring profits to the company. She was looking forward to a promising future on her return…
Biting her teeth, Cheng Jia tolerated the pain in her leg, found cleaning supplies, returned to the front of the sofa, and began the difficult task of cleaning up the food from the floor.
**
It was only when Mo Xiuchen came to the hospital to find Gu Kai that Shen Yuting found out about what had happened between him and Wen Ran in the past few days.
She was on her way to Gu Kai’s office when she heard Mo Xiuchen say the words ‘divorce’. Surprised, she opened the door and asked, “Xiuchen, you just said you want to divorce Ranran?”

Gu Kai, sitting on the sofa, frowned slightly as he looked at Shen Yuting.
Mo Xiuchen paused briefly and didn’t attempt to hide the truth. “Yes,” he said tersely, “I am divorcing Ranran.”
“Why?”
With a bewildered look on her face, Shen Yuting quickly walked to the sofa and enquired, looking at Mo Xiuchen, “You two had such a great relationship. Why would you want to divorce? Is it because she can’t have a baby?”
“Yuting, since you’ve found out, sit down. I’ll tell you in a bit.”
After a moment’s thought, Gu Kai beckoned Shen Yuting to sit next to him.
Ignoring Shen Yuting’s questioning gaze, Mo Xiuchen didn’t answer her question. He picked up a cigarette from the coffee table, lit it, and began smoking thoughtfully.
“Cousin, does Ranran know about this?”
Since Mo Xiuchen was not answering her queries, Shen Yuting turned to Gu Kai. She was shocked as Mo Xiuchen loved Wen Ran dearly. Despite the social stigma of her barrenness, for her sake, he was willing to do anything. She couldn’t understand why they were divorcing.
Gu Kai glanced at Mo Xiuchen’s detached and stern eyes, and calmly said, “Fu Jingyi called Ranran and told her everything.”
“Fu Jingyi? When did this happen?”
The color drained momentarily from Shen Yuting’s face as she asked worriedly.

“It’s been a week. These days, once you finish work, you go on dates with your boyfriend, so I didn’t tell you about these things.”
“I am going to find Ranran.”
Suddenly standing up, Shen Yuting was about to step out when Gu Kai pulled her back down to the sofa. “Yuting, no need. Ranran is equally upset. At noon, Qing Feng messaged me and said that Ranran cried all the way back.”
At his words, Shen Yuting turned pale and blurted out, “Isn’t it just because she can’t have a child? Xiuchen, don’t you not care about having children? Why didn’t you tell Ranran how much you love her? She loves you so much too. We all envy you and Ranran. How could you divorce her?”
Without having to ask, Shen Yuting could guess that the one who proposed the divorce was Wen Ran.
“Aside from not being able to have children, Ranran has other issues. She made this choice because she doesn’t want to hold back Xiuchen.”
Gu Kai explained gravely.
“What issues?”
Shen Yuting asked in confusion.
Across from her, Mo Xiuchen was smoking his cigarette, puff after puff. His handsome face hidden behind the smoke, a vague mist filled his eyes, the result of hearing from Gu Kai that Wen Ran had cried all the way home.
“During the years when Ranran was held captive by Fu Jingyi, she was used as a test subject. Her body contains a poison that Fu Jingyi planted…”
“How could this happen?”

After hearing Gu Kai’s explanation, Shen Yuting was stunned. After a while, she asked in disbelief.
She looked to Mo Xiuchen across from her. Seeing the desolation in his eyes, her heart ached uncontrollably. He seemed to have returned to his former self, back before he had met Wen Ran. His indifferent demeanor was heartrending.
