Gu Yang had completed the coursework for her second and third years and had applied for an exemption. She no longer needed to attend classes regularly and could simply take exams at the end of the semester.
She had also discussed with Gu Jin and Feng Jue her plans to apply for a grade skip at the end of this semester.
With her increased free time, Gu Yang mostly participated in competitions, worked in the laboratory, and engaged in system development training in the Mutant department. She frequently visited the Psychology Society and the Society of Mental Disorders for academic discussions or went to the capital’s mental hospital to treat patients screened by Ji Minghui.
The Ji family, known for their medical expertise, owned most of the hospitals in the capital, including the psychiatric hospital where Ji Minghui served as chairman and medical expert. During his inspections, Ji Minghui would often refer complex cases to Gu Yang.
Through this channel, Gu Yang earned extra income while also honing her mental strength.
As Gu Yang exited a ward, Ji Minghui remarked, “Every time we meet, Yangyang’s hypnosis skills have improved significantly.”
Gu Yang smiled. “It’s all thanks to you for finding me work to train every day.”
She and Ji Minghui had a long-standing friendship and often discussed academic issues together. Despite her talent in psychology and mental illness, she was still much less experienced compared to Ji Minghui.
Ji Minghui smiled back, then sighed. “Why couldn’t you be from our Ji family? Your medical talent seems so destined for us.”
Gu Yang chuckled. “Isn’t it enough that you have Ji Linbai as your son?”
Ji Minghui’s expression turned frustrated. “Don’t mention that brat. He’s chasing celebrities now. It’s one thing to be interested in celebrities, but he hasn’t even managed to catch up with any of them. Jingchi keeps teasing him about it.”
Gu Yang couldn’t help but laugh.

Ji Minghui had shared many stories about Ji Linbai and his brother during their conversations. A few years ago, Ji Jingchi, the Ji family’s rebellious member, abandoned his medical career to enter the entertainment industry. Ji Linbai and the Ji family elders had strongly opposed this decision, even threatening to disown him if he pursued it.
It was a reaction born out of anger; after all, aristocratic families often held biases against the entertainment industry and preferred their descendants to avoid it. Despite their disagreements, Ji Linbai and Ji Jingchi had always maintained a close relationship, with Ji Linbai being particularly strict in an attempt to steer his cousin away from a path he disapproved of.
However, Ji Jingchi was in his prime and refused to back down. He leveraged his connection with Ruihua Media’s young master to change his era name to Ji, signed a contract, and debuted, quickly rising to popularity in the entertainment industry.
This created tension between the two brothers.
Later, Ji Linbai fell in love with Ruan Chu. In support of her, he confronted his own biases against the entertainment industry. Gradually, he came to understand and support Ji Jingchi’s career.
Despite this, Ji Jingchi held a grudge. When he first debuted, Ji Linbai had tried to hinder his progress, hoping he would withdraw. As a result, Ji Jingchi frequently sought Ruan Chu for collaborations, even fostering a couple fanbase with her, which drove Ji Linbai to frustration.
Ruan Chu’s status also continued to rise. She had become an A-list actress and was nominated for the Best Actress Award at this year’s film festival in the capital.
Ji Minghui suddenly recalled something and asked, “I heard you’ve been frequenting the Special Talents Management Center lately. Did you join it as well?”
