The Evil God Beyond the Smartphone - Chapter 10: Awe and Fear (6)
Chapter 10: Awe and Fear (6)
Rick drew his sword and started towards the girl.
He didn’t want a surprise attack, so he didn’t bother to hide the sound of his footsteps.
The sound of Rick’s footsteps echoing through the bushes made the girl, who had been staring into space, turn her gaze towards him.
The distance of a few hundred paces was quickly shortened .
Arriving in front of the girl with quick steps, Rick stopped after only a few steps behind him.
“… a Cloud agent?”
The girl said once she spotted Rick, looking him over.
She recognized him when she saw Rick’s uniform.
The girl’s gaze alternated between the neat uniform and the sword in his hand.
He is wearing Cloud’s uniform and has his sword drawn.
It wouldn’t be hard to get an idea of what Rick was thinking .
“I wonder if you live here?”
“It doesn’t seem like something you’d be interested in.”
Rick’s question raised a look of wariness in the girl’s eyes.
It was an unusual reaction.
She is wary of him, the Cloud investigator.
Intuitively, Rick realized that the girl in front of him was hiding something.
“Unless you’ve messed with the village near here, you might as well be honest and cooperate with the investigation.”
“Did something go wrong in the village?”
“Yes. The inhabitants of some villages have disappeared entirely. Without leaving any trace.”
Was she not surprised to hear that entire villages had disappeared?
The girl Rick was facing showed a suspicious appearance.
Looking only at her innocent-looking figure, she seems to have nothing to do with it.
But the other person was someone who lived alone deep in the dangerous mountains.
I see Baguette visible from inside the cave, but she does not appear to be particularly hungry.
She looks too well-fed to be living deep in the mountains.
Rick did not relax his tension towards the girl in front of him .
“It’s strange that an entire village has disappeared.”
“Your reaction is more indifferent than I expected. By the way, young lady, where did the bread behind you come from?”
“The bread in the back? Oh, you mean Grace?”
“Grace…?”
“It’s a meal given to me by the Great One.”
The Great One. And Grace.
Either way, it was a word with plenty of room for misunderstanding.
Rick was convinced that the girl he was facing was someone’s priest .
She was not a priest from the Holy Land, despite her clothing and choice of words.
And even if she was a high-ranking priest from the Holy Land, there was something strange about bread.
Rather, a link to an evil god seemed suspicious.
“The Great One? Who are you talking about?”
“How can a mere mortal call His name?”
“…Is it not possible that the Great One took the villagers?”
The last question was almost half-joking.
Of course, even Rick, who was asking, did not expect such an answer.
But the girl in front of Rick was more unusual than Rick had expected.
She answered Rick’s question with a sad look on her face.
‘I’m not sure about that either. But if that person did take them, I think they would be happy because they would return to where they belonged.”
“….You are definitely crazy”
“You should think of words you’re using before you speak, because You might receive heavenly punishment.”
The girl in front of me is not normal.
The moment he faced that fact, Rick pointed the sword he was holding at the girl.
Any further interrogation was meaningless.
She is clearly a person who worships an evil god.
It was something that could cause even more damage in the future if the girl was not disposed of here and now.
“It seems that the Great One you say, has taken people with him, doesn’t he?”
“What does this mean?”
A girl who saw the sword pointed at her asked.
I can’t believe how she still pretends to be innocent.
Rick felt nauseous at the sight .
This is a girl who lives alone in a mountain range where all kinds of fierce beasts can be found at any time.
Of course, she was far from ordinary.
Even if she moved under a human mask, the fact remained that her essence was that of a priestess of the evil gods.
“What are you doing, you ask? You move the evil god and swallow up many of these people and still act shamelessly?”
“…I knew it.”
“What?”
“The world with people like you should disappear.”
Just after the girl finished her words with a cold look in her eyes.
Rick gazed at the enormous intimidation he could feel from the sky.
He cannot see it. Yet he could intuit it.
Something beyond recognition was moving towards him.
Aimed at his head.
Reflexively, Rick lifted his sword and protected his head.
Cling-!
A heavy tremor was felt in the hand that had attacked him.
Having blocked the sudden attack, Rick couldn’t help but be astonished.
“…!”
Neither its shape nor its form could be seen.
Nevertheless, the crushing pressure pressing down on his body had a definite substance.
The girl in front of him had done something.
Intuiting this fact, Rick rushed straight towards the girl.
“I won’t let you play tricks!”
His light footsteps quickly closed the distance between him and the girl.
Five steps, four steps.
—- and three steps.
The moment Rick was about to swing his sword at the quickly reduced distance.
He felt intimidated again and lifted his sword .
Thump-! Thump-!Thump-!
With a heavy impact felt from the sword, Rick’s body reflexively took a few steps backwards.
“I told you. If you behave rudely, you will receive Heaven’s punishment.”
The girl hugging the book, smiled and looked at him.
How dare she pretend to stand on the sidelines swearing.
Rick, who had clenched his teeth at the sight of the girl, who looked like she had plenty of room to spare, readjusted his posture.
If you let your opponent take the initiative like this, it will only put you at a disadvantage in battle.
Having adjusted his posture, Rick tried to run towards the girl again.
If it weren’t for the enormous amount of magic that began to gather above Rick’s head.
The attack magic comes.
It looked like the simple low-level magic.
However, the amount of magic power gathered to use the magic was at an unusual level.
It was too late to get out of the magic’s range.
The only option left was a defense.
Rick raised the magic in his entire body and prepared to withstand the attack .
Pierce-!
A powerful thunderbolt pierced Rick’s body with jolting lightning.
Rick screamed in intense pain as his internal organs burned .
“Argggh…!”
Even though the power had been increased to reduce the amount of impact, it was still this powerful.
A few direct hits were enough to endanger his life.
Rick analyzed the situation while suppressing the pain transmitted throughout his body.
The opponent could pour in magic power from a long distance.
If the distance opened up, he would definitely have to endure their one-sided attacks.
He had to somehow close the distance with the girl in front of him.
Rick Weil. Pull yourself together .
Rick motivated himself and regained his posture.
If you stay still, the enemy will attack you.
To close in, he had to break through his opponent’s long-range attack.
A simple rush would easily be blocked.
Having formulated a strategy to deal with the evil priest, Rick started running forward with his sword.
“Fuu..”
With a light body movement, Rick moves forward.
Even as Rick moved forward with anomalous movements, the lightning magic that was raining down towards Rick did not stop.
Rumble-!Rumble-!CLAP!!CLAP!!CLAP!!CLAP!!CLAP!!
With a succession of thunderous claps, lightning fell where Rick moved to dodge.
Even if it was menacing lightning, it was meaningless if it didn’t hit.
Rick, who had avoided the lightning with his quick body movements, rushed towards the girl, his whole body covered in magic power.
“Die already–!”
In a flash, Rick’s sword, which was close by, swung at the girl.
The girl with the magic book was in no state to respond.
Rick had no doubt that his sword would cut through the girl .
Until the girl’s lips moved as she watched him.
“…barrier.”
CLING-!
The sharply swung sword flashed across the surface of the barrier.
A large crack appeared on the surface of the barrier, where the sword, which was filled with magic power.
The sudden appearance of the barrier was a baffling sight.
Rick postured again and attempted to swing his sword.
If he swung his sword once more, he could destroy the barrier in front of him.
If only it hadn’t been for the lightning that fell from above Rick’s head.
CLAP!! CLAP!!CLAP!!
“Arghh…!”
Rick’s body was startled by the lightning that fell from the sky.
Struck by the lightning, Rick tried to raise his magic powers to stop the next attack.
However, the evil god watching over Rick did not condone it.
CLAP!! CLAP!!CLAP!!
Lightning struck above Rick’s head several times as he held his sword.
One after the other, the lightning struck Rick’s body in succession .
“Haa… haa…”
Thud-!
The sword fell from Rick’s hand and dug into the floor.
Having lost his sword, Rick collapsed down with his eyes closed.
But the evil god’s wrath towards Rick showed no mercy to the fallen.
CLAP!! CLAP!!CLAP!!
Lightning continuously raining down from the sky.
Rick’s consciousness gradually began to fade from the lightning strikes that struck his own body one after the other.
The moment Rick looked up ahead at his dissipating consciousness, sensing his end.
The girl in his eyes looked awe-inspiring.
* * * * * *
Cloud-Centurius Branch.
Second-level agent Huss-Alemeir had a mixed expression on his face when he saw the paper in front of him.
It had been ten days ago, when Rick, a third-level agent, had left the branch to search for traces of an evil god.
However, Rick, who had embarked on an investigation, had yet to return to the branch.
If he hadn’t found any traces near the village, he would have come to Huss for help, but all he came back with was a single report, not Rick.
“Rick Weil…”
Huss read the contents of the paper in front of him again .
Rick Weil. Disappeared.
His horse was found in a nearby village.
Cloud’s investigator missed his regular reporting deadlines and even left the horse he was using elsewhere and disappeared.
Undoubtedly, something strange had happened.
Huss clutched the report in his hand as he recalled his vanished junior colleague.
“Evil… evil god?”
Without leaving any trace, the entire population of four villages disappeared.
It was hard to believe at the time when I first heard the report from Rick.
What could have made the inhabitants disappear without a trace?
It was clear that Rick had failed to investigate thoroughly.
However, even Agent Rick, who presented the report, had now disappeared without a trace.
“…”
There’s something going on in this area.
Huss bit his lip as he felt this fact.
A being that can get rid of people without a trace.
And a being that could wipe out an entire village soundlessly.
Such a being was staying nearby.
“….I’ll have to ask for advice from the Holy Land”
Huss took out a piece of paper and inked it with a dry pen .
Huss straightened the paper and began to write a letter on it.
The other party was not an ordinary criminal.
And dealing with an evil god was something that required a suitable specialist.
