Lin Xu was as radiant as the autumn moon, exceptionally beautiful, which often attracted male attention when she was out. She had been standing in the lobby of Xie’s for a while when a man came over to express his concern.
“Miss, I see you’ve been here for a few minutes, have you run into any trouble?”
“No, I’ll leave in a moment,” Lin Xu said.
“Why not sit at the coffee shop across the street? I’ll buy you a coffee, how does that sound?” the man suggested.
“Oh.” Lin Xu feigned difficulty, “I’d like to go, but I need to pick up my child from school soon.”
Upon hearing this, the man immediately understood, “Since you have matters to attend to, I won’t disturb you any longer.”
After saying that, he left with a look of regret on his face.
This beautiful woman looked quite young; he hadn’t expected her to be married with children so early.
The sound here was not loud, but the handsome man at the entrance certainly heard it.
“President Xie, is there a problem?” Seeing the man stand still, the assistant beside him asked anxiously.
Xie Changyan withdrew his gaze, “No problem.”
He continued walking inside and, just before stepping into the elevator, his peripheral vision glanced at Lin Xu once more.
The strange feeling in his chest had disappeared as if it had been just his imagination, and then he entered the elevator with a calm expression.

Lin Xu returned to the villa in the afternoon, and the butler excitedly approached her to ask, “Miss Lin, have you found the person who leaked the information?”
Wen Li had no classes today. Had it been a few days earlier, she would have gone out to meet Xiao Yu already. But thinking of Lin Xu’s purpose for visiting Xie’s that morning, she was too scared to think of going out.
Hearing the butler’s question, she suddenly became nervous and clenched her hands.
“When I got there, my friend was busy and hadn’t found anything yet,” Lin Xu sighed regretfully.
The butler also expressed regret, “I see.”
“But no worries, my friend told me that he will send me the person’s information after he’s free, probably in an hour or two,” Lin Xu said.
Only then did the huge rock on Wen Li’s chest begin to ease, yet the next second it was lifted to mid-air again, like a dagger hanging suspended, ready to drop and plunge into her heart at any moment.
“He should courier the information to the villa soon, so if you see a delivery person coming, please make sure to receive it,” Lin Xu told the butler. “I’m a bit tired, I’ll go to my room to rest.”
The butler naturally agreed, dutifully saying, “Miss Lin, rest assured, I will bring it up to you as soon as we receive the delivery.”
Lin Xu nodded, yawning as she headed upstairs.
As she passed by Wen Li, seeing her pale face, Lin Xu’s eyes widened with exaggerated surprise and she asked with concern, “You look very pale, what happened?”
“I, I… just didn’t sleep well last night,” Wen Li, with a racing heart, struggled to keep her emotions steady.
“I see, then let’s go upstairs and catch up on some sleep together?”
“I… I’m not sleepy yet, I won’t go to sleep now.” Wen Li forced a smile, politely declining her offer.
She wanted to wait for the courier to arrive to see if there was any chance to switch the information.
Lin Xu did not insist, smiled at her, and went upstairs.
Whether it was because of a guilty conscience, Wen Li always felt there was a deeper meaning behind her smile, which made her feel uneasy.
For a moment, only Wen Li and the butler were left in the living room.
In the hot summer, the villa had the air conditioning on, keeping the temperature inside comfortably cool.
Yet even so, sweat began to bead on Wen Li’s forehead.
Every time there was any noise at the main gate, she broke out in more sweat, terrified that it might be the delivery person.
“Lady Wen, are you feeling unwell?” the butler, noticing her unusual behavior, asked with concern.
“I… maybe.” Wen Li was about to deny it when she suddenly thought of something and changed her tone, “I didn’t eat much today and my stomach is a bit painful. Could you please make something to eat in the kitchen?”
Aunt Zhang had gone out to buy groceries, so with Wen Li wanting something to eat, the butler had to go to the kitchen himself.
“But… Miss Lin said the delivery person would come by later, and I need to get the package,” the butler hesitated.
“If the delivery person comes, I’ll call you. My stomach really hurts too much, please,” Wen Li pleaded with moist eyes and a painful cold sweat on her forehead, which was heart-wrenching to see.
Moved by compassion, the butler agreed.
With only Wen Li left in the living room, she pondered hiding the materials first and then claiming that the delivery person hadn’t come yet.
As time ticked by, Wen Li grew more and more impatient, fearing that the delivery person would be slower than the butler making the meal.
Finally, noise came from the iron gate outside the villa.
The grating, irritating sound of rust at this moment seemed like heavenly music to Wen Li’s ears; she quickly got up and walked toward the foyer, wanting to get the materials at the first opportunity.
However, before she could open the door, it opened on its own.
Upon seeing who entered, she froze for a moment.
Ji Tingyang’s face also showed a hint of surprise as he hesitated, “Were you waiting for me?”
“Yes.” Wen Li restrained the panic on her face and smiled, “You’ve been very busy these past few days. I had the butler make some chicken soup to help nourish you.”
Unexpectedly receiving her care, Ji Tingyang’s expression mixed with astonishment and a hint of happiness.
He smiled slightly, about to say something more, when his phone rang in his pocket.
It was another annoying call from the shareholders.
Ji Tingyang furrowed his brows and told Wen Li that he needed to take the call, then walked toward the backyard.
Wen Li had not expected Ji Tingyang to return home unexpectedly early today, panicking her completely.
Fortunately, he went to the backyard to take the call, and once more, she was left alone in the living room.
It seemed that whatever she feared would happen always did, and hardly had she relaxed when the butler came out of the kitchen with the meal ready.
“Lady Wen, the meal is ready, and weren’t you saying your stomach was hurting? Come and eat,” the butler called.
The butler was really too kind-hearted, urging her several times, almost as if he would come over to personally escort her to the dining table.
“…” With no other choice, Wen Li reluctantly went over.
Her mind had never worked as quickly as it did at that moment, as she continuously thought of ways to send the butler away again.
“Hello, Same-City Express!” The doorbell rang.
Before she could think of a plan, the delivery arrived like a death knell.
Watching the butler’s silhouette move toward the door, Wen Li’s face turned terrifyingly pale.
It wasn’t long before she saw the butler return with an A4-sized document envelope.
He didn’t take it to Lin Xu but instead went straight to the backyard to give it to Ji Tingyang.
The butler thought, since this matter was so important, wasn’t it better to directly hand it over to Ji Tingyang? Why bother going through Lin Xu and complicating things?
Seeing Ji Tingyang take it, Wen Li abruptly stood up, her heart in turmoil. By the time she collected herself, she was already rushing toward the backyard.
