“Don’t you think what you’re doing is very undignified?” Xin Zaozao asked, her tone indifferent but laced with sarcasm.
Being kept by someone?
Doing household chores?
Doesn’t he feel humiliated?
Mu Cidian said, “After experiencing a lot, dignity isn’t that important anymore.”
“Makes sense,” Xin Zaozao nodded.
Again, there was a period of silence between them.
Xin Zaozao felt that Mu Cidian had indeed changed a lot over the years, but there was one thing that hadn’t.
He didn’t talk much.
At any time, he didn’t like to talk much.
Sometimes she wasn’t sure why she was keeping Mu Cidian.
His physique was nothing to write home about.
His skills in bed were just so-so.
(vitag.Init = window.vitag.Init || []).push(function(){viAPItag.display(“vi_765923973”)})
And most importantly, he seemed not to know how to please her.
She put down the food in her hand, “I’m off to work.”
“Okay.”
The word she heard most from Mu Cidian was “okay”.
She thought Mu Cidian had one redeeming quality: he was obedient.
If he said “okay” to something, he generally didn’t make the same mistake again.
She changed into another set of clothes and left the house.
Mu Cidian just sat there, looking at the food remaining from her breakfast.
He was actually thinking:
Was Xin Zaozao getting tired of him?
Initially, it was impulsive. Now, after the impulse had faded, realizing that he had no outstanding qualities, she would probably find him boring.
While he was thinking,
his cell phone chimed with a text message notification.
He glanced at it. It was a notification of a $200,000 deposit being made.
The maintenance money for this month.
At least she would keep him for another month.
After finishing his breakfast, he cleaned up the dishes and sat down in front of his computer to start his work day.
He was developing a mobile game.
He had recruited some several part-time university students online to partake in game development. The project now had some shape to it. Looking at the interface and certain game settings, he picked up the phone and dialed Yin Qin.
The call went through, “Hello.”
“Yin Qin, it’s me, Mu Cidian.” Mu Cidian initiated.
Yin Qin seemed to be stunned.
He rubbed his ears, “Am I hearing things wrong? You’ve been released from prison? When were you released, why didn’t you tell me! You’re really not playing fair, Mu Cidian!”
“There was a lot of stuff to deal with after I got out, so I didn’t inform you.”
“Enough with the excuses, I’m already surprised you called me. I thought you would just vanish when you got out of prison.”
Mu Cidian let out a small smile.
“Alright, cut to the chase. You’re looking for me for a reason, right?” Yin Qin was straightforward.
Although he had limited contact with Mu Cidian, he understood his character well.
He was incredibly patient– extremely so.
Unless it was crucial, he wouldn’t seek Yin Qin out voluntarily.
Unlike Yin Qin, who liked having more friends and people around to liven things up. He loved a lively scene.
“Is Luo Xiaolang there?” Mu Cidian asked.
“What do you want with my wife?” Yin Qin was suddenly agitated.
“I heard Luo Xiaolang’s gaming skills are quite impressive, my friend has developed a gaming software and I wanted Xiaolang to test play it and give some feedback.”
“You’re developing a game?” Yin Qin might sometimes seem dopey, but when he was switched on, he was practically Sherlock Holmes.
Admitting, Mu Cidian said, “Yes, I want to try developing in this direction. Given my current situation, other jobs are quite difficult to find. Back when I was in school, I worked with several friends on game development, but because we were too busy at the time, we didn’t manage to complete it. I feel some regret and want to see if I can pull it off now.”
“Send the game to me then, I’ll forward it to Luo Xiaolang for testing.”
“If it’s convenient, could you give me Luo Xiaolang’s contact details? I want to chat with her personally.”
“Mu Cidian, you’re not here to drink wine, are you?” Yin Qin acted as if he was worried about others stealing his wife.
Mu Cidian was amused.
He said, “I thought you were into Ji Baixin.”
“That was centuries ago, Luo Xiaolang and I are now going strong. I tell you, finding Luo Xiaolang is like finding true love in this lifetime, this true love! Anyway, someone like you wouldn’t understand the happiness I’m feeling now. By the way, have you seen Xin Zaozao?” Yin Qin changed the topic at an astonishing speed.
In that moment, Yin Qin was merely thinking about everything Mu Cidian had done for Xin Zaozao, and how she should express her gratitude now that he had been released from prison.
“No.” Mu Cidian lied.
As for his relationship with Xin Zaozao, he felt that Zaozao wouldn’t want to tell anyone.
“That woman Xin Zaozao is really tough now! Who would have guessed that such a girl could have such a powerful force within her. I sometimes get lost for words when we discuss work.” Yin Qin looked rather displeased.
Mu Cidian didn’t respond.
“How about this? If you’re free, come over for dinner tonight. I can formally introduce you to Luo Xiaolang. If the game development goes well, I can get Xiaolang to do some promotion for you. Don’t underestimate Xiaolang from my family, her fan base is no less than a popular star.”
“Thank you.” Mu Cidian responded, “I may not have made dinner plans for tonight, but if there’s nothing else going on, I’ll head over. Can I get back to you in a bit?”
“Sure.”
Mu Cidian hung up.
The moment he hung up, he began composing a message to Xin Zaozao. He asked her, “Are you planning to come home for dinner tonight?”
If she wasn’t coming home, he would go meet Luo Xiaolang.
Before he started software development, he had no idea Luo Xiaolang held such significant influence in the gaming industry. He only found out from a group of university students he was working with. As it turned out, Luo Xiaolang was Yin Qin’s wife.
It seemed like a lot had happened in Jin City during his years in prison.
He waited a while.
Xin Zaozao finally replied, “Not coming home tonight.”
“Alright.” Mu Cidian responded.
Xin Zaozao looked at Mu Cidian’s message.
This word, in Mu Cidian’s texts, seemed to appear quite frequently.
She redirected her gaze, and continued with her work.
There were no social engagements tonight. She had some drinks the night before and still felt a bit off today. So, she planned to get off work on time, go home and have dinner, and take a good rest for the night.
But she had just received a call from Yin Qin, inviting her over for dinner at his home. He said as Xiaolang was not out of the country for a competition, they should take this opportunity gather. He also invited Zhizhi and others over.
Xin Zaozao had been working closely with Yin Qin over the years and had fostered a deep relationship with Yin Qin’s family through Song Zhizhi. So, generally, she wouldn’t refuse such an invitation. Therefore, she accepted right away.
It was 5:30 pm.
Xin Zaozao got off work.
A driver was waiting to drop her off at the Yin Family’s villa.
Apparently, Yin Qin had become a devoted father, working from nine-to-five strictly, and only working overtime when absolutely necessary. The moment he got off from work, he would rush home to see his wife and child. Therefore, by the time Zaozao arrived at the villa, Yin Qin had already changed into his home clothes and was playing with his little cub in the living room.
“I thought you’d be working overtime!” Yin Qin said to Xin Zaozao as he played with his son.
“I have my non-overtime days.”
“How rare.” Yin Qin picked up his three-year-old cub, “little cub, say hello.”
“Hello, auntie ZaoZao.” The little cub’s childish voice sounded cute as he grinned endearingly.
“Good boy.” Xin Zaozao patted the little cub’s head.
The little cub had grown well, showing no signs of being a premature baby.
“By the way, where is Xiaolang? And what about Uncle Yin and Aunt Qin?”
“My parents have gone on a vacation abroad, leaving me and my younger brother on our own. My brother is still asleep, he should be up soon. As for Xiaolang…” Yin Qin paused abruptly.
“Did Xiaolang go abroad again?”
“No, a friend came to meet her regarding some matters. They are having a discussion in the room and she didn’t want me disturbing them. She asked me to take the kid away from there.” Saying this, Yin Qin looked displeased.
Xin Zaozao couldn’t help but laugh.
Yin Qin, over the years, really acted like a henpecked husband in front of Luo Xiaolang.
“You laugh, go on! Let’s see if you keep laughing later on.” Yin Qin sounded a bit sinister.
Xin Zaozao didn’t ponder on this too much and asked, “What about Zhizhi and Ji Baijian? They haven’t arrived yet.”
“Ji Baijian is also very busy, taking care of commercial management issues. You know that official family’s what’s-his-name, right, Jun Mingyu likes Ji Baijian.”
“…Aren’t those just rumors?”
“Regardless of whether they are or not, Jun Mingyu keeps Ji Baijian busy all day, often asking him to discuss matters of national importance. The two seem quite close.”
“Are you jealous?”
“Jealous my foot! I’m jealous for Song Zhizhi.” Yin Qin rolled his eyes.
“I heard it’s not Jun Mingyu who likes Ji Baijian, but Jun Mingyu’s wife, Qin Jingxiang.”
“Regardless, both of them bear some hidden agenda towards Ji Baijian.”
“…” Should the term ‘hidden agenda’ be used this way?
“I also heard, Qin Jingxiang has a daughter, and she’s been teaching her daughter to seduce Ji Lizhi since a young age.” Yin Qin continued to gossip.
The circle was indeed very chaotic.
“Are Zhizhi and the others coming tonight?” Xin Zaozao asked.
“I don’t know, but… Ji Baili should be coming.” Yin Qin raised his eyebrows.
At that moment, Ji Baili appeared in the hall.
Simultaneously,
On the staircase of the second floor, footsteps were heard.
Yin Qin couldn’t help but feel… such a scene was really exciting!
