Chapter 67: Where the Spear Points
Tuk!
Delfino looked at Ivan with puzzled eyes when he returned with a person on his shoulder and put it down on the floor.
“You said you went for a drink, but your appearance is messed up. Did you have any fights at the drinking party?”
Even as he spoke like that, Delfino felt absurd. Because Ivan wasn’t the kind of person, who would get into an argument over drinking.
Very few people could openly act against Ivan, who had the strong physique typical of a Norse warrior.
No matter how much Norse people are ignored as barbarians, how many people have the guts to say it out loud?
Seeing the arms hanging from his muscular forearms and waistbands, everyone seemed to be careful about their actions, no matter what they thought on the inside.
“It looks like you’ve grabbed a passing sword master by the collar.”
“It’s not a sword master, but I had a fight with a master of fighting.”
Ivan added, pointing to the collapsed Mathias.
“He’s from Thunderwolf.”
At those words, Delfino narrowed his eyes. He, who had previously investigated Ivan’s past, knew immediately what was going on.
Delfino looked at him silently, then shrugged and squatted down.
“I’ll treat him.”
Ivan wasn’t the type of person to leave a trace.
He would have killed his opponent once he had started fighting, but if he brought him alive this way, it meant that there was a good reason.
“Please do that. It’s a waste to end his life like this.”
After falling into this damn world, Ivan suffered from so many people. Most of them were junkies and scammers, but there were very few good people among them.
Mathias was one of those good people.
Although their relationship was so twisted, he did not want to take his life.
Whoo!
Delfino unleashed his divine power to heal Mathias’ wounds. It was deeper on the inside than on the outside.
After such treatment, Delfino avoided that place. He must have felt that this was not the place he was supposed to be.
Click-.
Ivan pulled up a chair in the corner and sat down, untied the weapon hanging from his waist and checked it. Even in a short battle, his equipment was greatly damaged. One of his axes was shattered, and his sword was also in good shape on the outside, but the inside was a mess.
Of course, money came from Mathias’ pocket, but he couldn’t help but feel upset.
“Recently, there is a lot of equipment consumption. Maybe a long break might be possible.”
Woo-.
Ivan took out his blood sword, Brika, and held it in his hand. After Pierre Lorraine’s death, it became quiet. There is no reaction even if he infuses his magic power.
Since the system offered the awakening of the blood sword Brika as a reward, it must have been done, but somehow it seemed to be sealed rather than awakened.
Ivan closed his eyes and brought Brika to his forehead. There was something vaguely felt as a huge force was wriggling inside Brika.
The blood sword Brika was changing into a new form. However, there was no way to predict when the change would end.
The lost warrior’s spear has already expired, and the blood sword Brika is in the process of awakening and cannot be used, so it is weaker than before in terms of equipment.
‘After solving the elf’s request, you can get a new weapon…’
The elf’s request was never easy. In order to obtain a new weapon, the quest had to be carried out, but ironically, it could not be easily accepted if there was no usable equipment.
As Ivan was thinking about such a thing, Mathias groaned and opened his eyes. His wounds were not shallow, but he was a strong man, so he quickly woke up.
He groaned and moved his eyes, then suddenly looked up at Ivan. And he asked with a sad smile.
“I thought it was the afterlife, but it doesn’t seem to be. Why did you keep me alive?”
At that, Ivan replied with a shrug of his shoulders.
“I haven’t drunk enough yet. I don’t like people who get up and go first after drinking.”
They met after a long time, and when he asked if it would be enough for a couple of beers, Mathias shook his head.
“You’ve changed a lot. You’re more relaxed than before.”
“I’m just pretending to be.”
When Ivan reached out his hand, Mathias hesitated, then grabbed it and stood up.
“In the end, I couldn’t do this or that. I must be a bad person.”
“That’s fortunate. I almost lost a drinking buddy I haven’t seen in a long time.”
Ivan spoke as if nothing had happened, but Mathias still had a troubled expression on his face. It seems that he couldn’t stand the fact that he had started a fight and ended up being so clumsy.
Ivan took a bottle of booze from his inventory and tossed it, and Mathias took it and poured it into his throat. He emptied the bottle at once and opened his mouth.
“She was an innocent one. She had a twinkle in her eyes saying she wanted to be strong. It’s also my fault that she’s on the wrong path.”
He knew who he was talking about. So Ivan did not respond and tilted the bottle together.
Why? Ivan took her life anyway, so he had nothing to say.
“I couldn’t even take revenge on my junior, so I couldn’t be a good senior, and I wasn’t a good friend because I wanted revenge without reason and aimed at you.”
Mufa Thunderwolf did not have a teacher or a disciple, but Julia Miller was like his pupil in hindsight. He had no choice but to continue the psychological conflict.
“You don’t have to worry about me. Something like that could happen.”
“It was a nasty thing to think of it as a drinking mistake. Just because you accepted it doesn’t make me feel at ease.”
Ivan knew instinctively that he wanted to leave like this.
“…the relationship is ironic.”
“That’s right.”
Mathias forced his throbbing body to stand up. And he let go of all his complicated emotions and spoke calmly.
“Once you’ve whined, that’s enough. Since you didn’t take my neck, I’m going to go back to my essence.”
“Where do you plan to go?”
“East. I heard that it’s noisy these days. If I work hard with the orcs, any thoughts will disappear.”
He nodded his head with a serious expression and patted his waist. Blinking his eyes a couple more times.
As Ivan pulled a pocket out of his arms, Mathias was momentarily taken aback, then smirked.
“Take it. I have to pay for the drink.”
“Hmm, hmm!”
“There must be a piece of parchment in it. I was looking for it, but maybe the owner is you. I’m going east now, so if you’re interested, check it out.”
And Mathias soon left. He moved his steps towards a fierce and dangerous battle that would wash away the clutter in his head.
Ivan hesitated and barely asked before he left.
“Can we have another drink next time?”
Mathias answered with a smirk at that.
“If we are meant to be, then someday. At that time, we’ll just have a drink and go to bed.”
As Ivan watched him go away, Irene appeared from somewhere and stood next to him. She took a deep breath of tobacco and smirked.
“Your eyes are dim. Anyone who sees it would think that your lover is leaving.”
“You’re joking. Unfortunately, I’m not such an emotional person.”
“What’s the parchment? May I know?”
“Well, I didn’t check that yet, so I don’t know. I couldn’t hold onto someone who was going and ask.”
Ivan opened his pocket, took out a piece of parchment rolled up inside, and unfolded it very carefully.
“It’s not an official language. It’s the Western way, but where?”
Ivan knew quite a few languages, but it didn’t catch his eyes at first glance. That meant it was a minority language.
“I think I need to do some dechip…”
Then Irene glanced at the parchment and spoke.
“I have left all my treasures here.”
“What?”
“It’s a ciphertext mainly used by pirates. If you look at the old style, it’s not the current style, but it must have been around three hundred years ago.”
“Have you ever seen a pirate before?”
“Usually, I was the one who beat them.”
The Western Union Kingdom was bordered by the great sea to the west. It was also a center of trade with other continents through the waterway.
It is a place where many trading ships come and go, so many pirates were targeting them. There are many small islands in the middle where you can hide, so there is a reason that subjugation is not easy.
Bandits and pirates are the same things, but pirates are one step above that. It’s hard to be a sailor, but it’s terrifying that these guys even plunder while doing it.
Irene took the parchment from Ivan and looked at it in the moonlight. Then a blurry map appeared.
“What do you think this is?”
“A treasure map?”
“Yeah, I don’t know if it’s real or fake.”
A treasure map left by a famous pirate was a very common item in this area, as it’s perfect for fanning people’s desires and slurping them.
“That martial artist may have left it behind to screw you.”
Irene was very negative about the treasure map. She has seen too many instances of others being deceived by these things and wasting their life.
“Do you know what kind of treasure map it is?”
“Carly Hawkins. Once a famous pirate. He accumulated a lot of money and disappeared. That’s why these treasure maps are floating around. It’s common,” said Irene, shrugging her shoulders.
“If you’re going to use it to find treasure, you’d better take a shovel and dig up the back hill.”
However, even though she said so, she didn’t think they would listen to her. It was because Delfino and Ferocious Tooth, who suddenly appeared, were looking at the treasure map with very interesting eyes.
Even if it wasn’t for the financial part, they couldn’t help but be curious. The treasure map had a strange magical power that stimulated people’s imagination and expectations.
“The sea! I want to see the sea!”
Ferocious Tooth shouted so. For him, who had only seen swamps and lakes all his life, the sea was a strange object of longing.
It was common in this world to live only in the place where one was born and then die. The sea, which is said to be filled with water, was a mysterious place from its very existence to those who had only heard of it.
“Has Ivan ever seen the sea?”
“Well, I’ve seen it a lot. I used to live at the beach when I was young.”
At those words, Delfino burst out in admiration and nodded his head.
“Right. I heard that the Norse are friendly to the sea. In the north, they have a reputation as a strong seaman.”
Not fame, but notoriety… The fear of pirating Vikings.
And in fact, the sea where Ivan lived was not the sea of the Vikings, who broke the ice and sailed the rough seas. It was a place where it attracted millions of tourists in the summer.
“There is the sea nearby, so it wouldn’t be bad to see it at least once. But as Irene said, treasure hunting is tricky. It’s not that I don’t trust Mathias, but I can’t afford to look for….” Ivan suddenly frowned.
There was a strange sound.
Whoops.
As he pulled out the spear of the lost warrior from his inventory, the spear whose handle had been cracked trembled. Light emanated from the runes engraved on the blade and handle.
The lost warrior’s spear points the way. He didn’t know whether it was the right way, but it was clear that it had worked hard till his last strength.
Ivan stroked the spear and looked up at the sky.
‘Is this the spear will, or yours?’
There was no answer. Only his eyes looked at him heavily.
