“I just don’t want to go to your brother’s company anymore. After all, everyone there knows me, knows who I am. Working with me, they’d all feel uncomfortable. I want to send my resume to other companies. We seldom appear in public together, so there are still plenty of people who don’t know about my status.”
Gu Huanhuan nodded, feeling that what Shu Pan said made sense. If she were in Shu Pan’s place, she would do the same.
“Does my brother agree?” Gu Huanhuan suddenly thought of his domineering attitude and guessed it wouldn’t be easy to convince him.
Would he, who loved his wife so much, be willing to let his cousin-in-law work for another company?
“Not yet, but I haven’t picked up a pen to draw for a long time. I should just find a more relaxed job that also makes it easy to pick up and drop off the kids.” It turned out Shu Pan had already planned everything, now she just had to tell Gu Shaoting.
“That’s good.” Huanhuan hugged Warm Sunlight, her heart melting. She now disliked traveling away for filming because it meant she wouldn’t see Warm Sunlight for an extended period, something she couldn’t accept deep down.
“How have you and Wen Chi been lately? I heard he got suspended for a while, what happened? Is everything okay now?” Shu Pan asked.
“It’s okay now, everything has been investigated. It was an issue with the patient, not the doctor’s fault.” Gu Huanhuan, while playing with Warm sunlight, talked.
“That’s good. No matter what job you have, there’s always pressure,” Shu Pan couldn’t help but agree.
The two of them talked for a long time. They had lunch at Qiyuan and Wen Chi came to pick them up in the evening.
…
After picking up the kids, Shu Pan came back home while Gu Shaoting still hadn’t returned from his social engagements.
Shu Pan didn’t know if it was her imagination, but she felt like there was some kind of barrier growing between her and Gu Shaoting recently. She couldn’t quite specify what it was.

He had also been busy with socializing a while back; she nagged him a few times, worried that his gastric ulcer would recur, advising him not to drink. He did listen, but now he seemed to be slipping back to his old habits.
But this time, she really didn’t intend to repeat her warnings; saying it too much would irritate them both.
After settling the kids down, it was already past 9:00 PM, but Gu Shaoting still hadn’t returned home. He had called during dinner, saying he’d be back soon.
Shu Pan thought about it, then sent a voice message to Xiaomeng, asking if He Ming had returned yet.
Xiaomeng seemed to be watching her phone too, responding quickly. He hadn’t come back, he was out socializing.
Shu Pan frowned slightly, but said nothing. After wishing Xiaomeng good night, she turned off the lights and went to sleep.
When Gu Shaoting came home, he was unaccustomed to the darkness inside the house.
Shu Pan usually left a small light on for him; what was up today? Had she forgotten?
He fumbled his way to switch on the lights, then went to the children’s rooms to see they were fast asleep, their faces angelic. Gu Shaoting looked in on them before returning to the master bedroom.
Seeing the silhouette under the covers, he couldn’t help but smile, then realized she was asleep.
After showering and turning on lights, making plenty of noise, Shu Pan still lay still.
If it were any normal day, she would have already gotten up.
Could she be sick? Gu Shaoting wondered, then moved closer to her, noting her breathing was steady, her forehead not hot, just deeply asleep.
He sighed in relief then. The company had recently acquired two pieces of land for development, which had led to an increase in his social commitments.
He knew Shu Pan wasn’t pleased with him coming home later day by day, but there was nothing he could do, as he was responsible for the livelihood of thousands of employees.
He kissed Shu Pan’s forehead and then lay down on the bed.
The moment he switched off the light, Shu Pan opened her eyes. Actually, as a light sleeper, she noticed his arrival the moment he pushed open the door, but she didn’t want to engage with him. The better she treated him, the more he took advantage of her, pushing the boundaries further.
