Inside a private dining room at a restaurant outside the Investigation Team’s Base.
Pei Jinye and two others sat down to have a meal.
Zhou Ye actually harbored quite a few doubts about the people urgently arrested tonight.
“They… aren’t the real culprits, are they?”
Brother Bi glanced at him, “Whether they are or not has nothing to do with us, now that they’re in the interrogation room. Once the interrogation is over, we’ll know the outcome, so don’t worry too much.”
Zhou Ye said sullenly, “I just feel uneasy, that kid was so arrogant before. I did some checking, and the victim was a sand quarry owner from the harbor. His wife and family are uncontactable. I suspect…”
He didn’t finish his sentence, but Pei Jinye and Brother Bi certainly understood what he meant.
“When it comes to matters of interest, who can say for sure? Let’s wait for the results of the investigation.”
As Brother Bi spoke, Pei Jinye looked up out the window. Although he saw nothing, he heard a “flap” sound of wings taking flight.
Pei Jinye said nothing and merely lowered his gaze.
Ten minutes later.
Brother Bi drove Pei Jinye to the station. After Zhou Ye waved from inside the car, the two quickly left.
Pei Jinye withdrew his gaze.
(vitag.Init = window.vitag.Init || []).push(function(){viAPItag.display(“vi_765923973”)})
He didn’t know the origin of the black crow, but that didn’t interfere with what he had to do next.
“Flap, flap” sounded several times.
A Bluebird came fluttering over.
Hovering in front of Pei Jinye.
After Pei Jinye whispered a few words, the affectionate Bluebird rubbed against him before taking off again.
As it flew over the forests beneath, hundreds of birds followed it, forming a massive shadow under the night sky, heading off into the distance.
Pei Jinye silently watched this spectacle.
In the dark of night.
His figure blended almost entirely with darkness and vanished from the spot in an instant.
…
…
Bronze Association.
Teacher Chang’s figure still hadn’t appeared.
However, Pei Jinye had located others in the secret laboratory and directly chased after them.
…
…
“Bang!”
A muffled sound.
A shadow slammed into the wall; had Pei Jinye not controlled his force, either the wall or the person would surely have shattered.
The shadow retreated in horror, “Who are you?”
Pei Jinye didn’t speak and simply reached out to grab.
The shadowy figure raised his arm, and his fist sparkled.
Before he could land a fierce and ferocious punch on the newcomer, he was abruptly suppressed, and even the light from his fist was extinguished on the spot.
The scene terrified the shadowy figure.
Being able to directly quell his fist’s light, he couldn’t dare to imagine how strong this mysterious person was.
In panic, he tried to retreat.
But almost instantly, his lower body was frozen, attached to the ground, rendered completely unable to struggle free.
“The laboratory was your doing!”
He suddenly realized, but mistakenly thought the person who destroyed the laboratory last night was Pei Jinye’s companion.
Pei Jinye wasn’t even willing to answer.
He simply placed his hand on the man’s face.
A vicious power burst forth.
“Enter the dream.”
It was as if two words reverberated in the shadowy figure’s spiritual world.
Countless darkness descended.
Crushing his world as though with irresistible force.
Memory after memory tumbled and was mercilessly devoured by Pei Jinye.
…
…
…
Green liquid emitted boiling bubbles.
“Splash,” went a sound.
A bald man with no clothes on calmly emerged with his eyes closed.
There were four such incubation tanks aligned in a row.
Men and women appeared in equal numbers inside them.
A hand attached an electrical device to the first bald person’s head.
Moments later.
The bald man slowly opened his eyes.
“Tell me your code,” an aged voice came from in front.
The bald man looked up at the younger version of Teacher Chang, at first struggling to speak as though unlearnt, stuttered a few words, finally conveying his identity.
[My code is 11, I am to obey the Father God all my life.]
Teacher Chang watched the bald man, his stern expression finally showing a hint of a smile.
The bald man’s vision followed Teacher Chang as he moved, then the remaining three underwent the same “start-up” process.
The four of them got dressed.
In the years that followed, all four of them started learning and integrating into normal human life.
During this period, Teacher Chang continued his research, but unfortunately, due to the lack of experimental materials, the experiments kept failing.
Then the tenth year.
Two of the three teammates who had started missions with 11 were “devoured” by Teacher Chang; it was his first time learning what fear was.
And now…
He was experiencing the sensation of fear once again before a mysterious person.
…
…
Memory concluded.
The attribute panel displayed an update.
[New Extraordinary-Human Gene: Body·Boxing]
…
The increase in Transcendent abilities didn’t catch Pei Jinye’s attention.
It was the memory about the whereabouts of that person from the Bronze Association.
“Is it time to feed again?”
Through the memories of Agent 11, he knew Teacher Chang’s body had developed issues recently, thus urgently needing “nourishment.”
At such times, even Agent 11 wouldn’t know Teacher Chang’s whereabouts.
“Had there been disappearances in Da Peng City since last night?”
Pei Jinye frowned.
With a wave of his hand, he used Karmic Fire to dispose of Agent 11’s body.
Teacher Chang had left after receiving a phone call last night, Pei Jinye surmised he had gone out to Devour, but the location of the old thief’s secret base remained unknown.
He had reviewed the criminal cases he ran into this morning in his mind.
Yet he quickly eliminated Old Thief Chang as a suspect from those events.
The black crows had no relation to the Bronze Association.
Da Peng City must have another group of forces.
However, since Agent 11 was sent to investigate the secret laboratory, it indicated that Old Thief Chang still had a source of intelligence behind the scenes.
Knowing Teacher Chang’s “covetousness” towards himself, Pei Jinye didn’t believe he wouldn’t appear if he himself were used as bait.
The next morning.
Bronze Association.
Just as Fang Tianjian and the others arrived, they heard a dull sound coming from the back mountain.
They couldn’t help but be curious.
These days, they were usually among the earliest to arrive.
How could someone have beaten them to it today?
A group of them followed the sound.
Seeing the two figures sparring, the crowd paused, especially Fang Tianjian, whose expression changed the most.
“Old Fang, isn’t that Pei Jinye? He actually came… Oh right, it’s the weekend, they should be off.” A person whispered to Fang Tianjian, “Your junior is here, why don’t you talk to him, perhaps have lunch together at noon?”
Fang Tianjian couldn’t help but pull a face.
He couldn’t swallow his pride.
Ever since Pei Jinye had rejected him, he had kept it in mind.
It was like someone he intended to charitably support had turned into a high-ranking official, filling Fang Tianjian with a mix of envy and unwillingness.
He couldn’t quite name this feeling.
He simply turned around and left.
“He’s here so what? Got nothing better to see? Are you all so free? Get back to your training.”
Seeing him go, the crowd exchanged looks and many dispersed.
But some stayed, their eyes fixed on the alternating movements of Pei Jinye and Tang Huoyang in their sparring, as if they had discovered something, they murmured, “Pei Jinye hasn’t been here for a while, how come he seems to have gotten so much stronger?”
The young girl beside them said softly, “Didn’t you know? He was personally taught Twelve Lotuses by Teacher Chang himself.”
The previously hesitant person was taken aback.
“He has also practiced Twelve Lotuses? But didn’t he just arrive last November? His foundation is that good?”
The girl didn’t answer him, her gaze fiercely fixed on Tang Huoyang opposite Pei Jinye.
“What’s the use of being strong? Brother Tang’s family has money anyway.”
…
By the time Pei Jinye and Tang Huoyang stopped their sparring, only the two of them were left on the back mountain.
Tang Huoyang looked at his reddened arm, gritting his teeth in pain, “Damn, your fists are harder than steel plates, yeeouch.”
“You’re wasting your defensive talent,” Pei Jinye walked towards the stone steps, grabbed a water bottle, and threw it over, then he opened one for himself and started chugging.
This was a little teasing towards Tang Huoyang.
It couldn’t be denied that Tang Huoyang did have talent; not having seen him for a while, his abilities had improved by at least two levels compared to before.
But unfortunately, he still wasn’t a match for Pei Jinye.
“Teacher Chang recently started a small class, specifically for students like Fang Tianjian who have a bit of talent,” Tang Huoyang said as he sat down next to him.
“You didn’t go?” Pei Jinye gulped some mineral water, then casually screwed the cap back on.
“I have private coaching; can’t get away.” Tang Huoyang shook his head, “I might be leaving soon.”
“Where to?” Pei Jinye looked over.
“A new round of trials is about to start. This time, it might be North Continent or Southern Continent.” Tang Huoyang lay on the ground, looking up at the sky, “Old Pei, have you heard about the apocalypse?”
Pei Jinye turned his head, “You suddenly got so profound; I can’t take it.”
“Chaotically ruining the mood,” Tang Huoyang laughed at his own joke, then reluctantly got up from the ground, but still lowered his voice, “I heard from my teacher the other day, seems like the situation is indeed serious this year… In the Western Continent, some areas are already under military management; I have a feeling something big is about to happen.”
Pei Jinye jokingly switched the subject, “What’s there to fear? If the sky falls, there’s always someone tall to hold it up, right?”
“Yeah, with you around, it’s not my turn yet,” Tang Huoyang joked back.
Pei Jinye shook his head and chuckled.
“By the way, have you heard about Sun Ruofan’s family trouble?” Tang Huoyang said with an air of mystery.
Pei Jinye looked over, “What’s wrong with her family?”
“Her dad’s business endeavors abroad got sabotaged, and they’ve been having a rough time lately,” Tang Huoyang spoke in a hushed tone, “That girl hasn’t been out and about for some time, there are even rewards posted online for her. Eh, they always say disaster shouldn’t strike the family, but all talk, no action.”
Pei Jinye raised an eyebrow, “Who did they offend?”
“Seems to be someone from Nan Du City, but the exact person is unclear,” Tang Huoyang shook his head, and after the conversation, they both left the Bronze Association.
Passing by the martial arts practice field, Fang Tianjian intentionally avoided eye contact, but still couldn’t help looking over.
“Really not going to invite him to eat?” his friend asked softly beside him.
Fang Tianjian quickly averted his gaze, indifferently saying, “I don’t have the time.”
…
After leaving the Bronze Association.
Pei Jinye knew that news of his return would definitely reach those ears quickly, and he had already placed “eyes” all around here too.
If he could follow the vine to find the melons, that would be great.
“Buzz.”
His phone rang.
It was an urgent call from Lin Xiawei.
“Something’s happened…”
