Lu Rui put down his phone, pinched the bridge of his nose, and suddenly felt quite like a failure.
Qiaoqiao had been back for over a month and she never mentioned any discomfort, so he thought she was doing well and didn’t need them to worry too much.
But she wasn’t doing well, she simply didn’t say anything.
While he was still proud of Qiaoqiao getting first place, he had no idea she was being accused of cheating just moments before.
Yet, after Qiaoqiao returned, she hadn’t mentioned a word to them.
She probably didn’t want to worry them, he thought. If only he had paid more attention to Qiaoqiao at the time…
Lu Rui’s emotions were in turmoil.
Why hadn’t Tingting told them about these things, did Qiaoqiao ask her not to? Or was there another reason?
And who started the rumor that Qiaoqiao had donated money to get in, how could they so recklessly spread such groundless rumors?
About the incident with the lost book, he had seen the video and naturally knew it was Lu Xue’s doing.
Since Lu Xue and Tingting were close, did Tingting know that Lu Xue was targeting Qiaoqiao?
A myriad of thoughts flashed through his mind. Regardless, he needed to clarify things about the project first, then he’d look into these other matters one by one.

Ever since the small misunderstanding with Qiao Yun, Jingzhi had not been home for four days. Taking advantage of the weekend, he decided to make a trip home.
After so many days, Qiao Yun couldn’t possibly hold a grudge any longer, he hoped.
Upon his return home, his car just brushed past Li Hanzhou’s.
Jingzhi frowned and immediately asked Su Mian upon entering, “I think I just saw Li Hanzhou leaving our home. What was he here for?”
Su Mian paused for a moment and then said with regret, “He might have been dropping Qiaoqiao off at home. I didn’t realize Mr. Li was also here, and I didn’t go out to thank him. That was very impolite of me.”
Jingzhi asked warily, “Dropping Qiaoqiao off at home?”
“Qiaoqiao went to the Li Family’s place to play today,” Su Mian commented without much concern.
He is Li Miao’s brother, after all. There shouldn’t be any issue with him bringing his sister’s friend home.
Jingzhi disagreed, saying, “Mom, how can you just let my sister go to the Li Family’s place? What if something goes wrong and it displeases the Li Family?”
Su Mian didn’t see the problem. “In the world of kids, things aren’t as complicated as you think. The young miss of the Li Family genuinely sees Qiaoqiao as a friend.”
Jingzhi said, “It’s not necessary to make friends with the Li Family; doesn’t she have many classmates at school?”
He was simply concerned that Qiao Yun, due to different social standings, might get the short end of the stick by befriending Li Miao, but Su Mian misunderstood.
“What I’m thinking is, it sounds a bit like you’re saying Qiaoqiao is actively seeking relations?”
Jingzhi was taken aback and, after a long pause, denied it, “You’re overthinking it.”
Su Mian glared at him, “Even if you didn’t mean it that way, if you say so and Qiaoqiao was here to hear it, what would she think?”
Jingzhi was at a loss for words for a moment. He truly hadn’t thought it through before inadvertently speaking his mind.
A reminder from his own mother made him realize how his words could easily be misconstrued.
Su Mian chastised him, “Qiaoqiao is a quiet girl; do you think she’d take the initiative to make friends? I believe it was Li Miao who took the initiative this time or else Qiaoqiao might not have made any friends at all by now. You are not concerned about Qiaoqiao at all, not even noticing her social life.”
Jingzhi was speechless, “Isn’t Tingting there? Qiaoqiao can play with Tingting. Tingting is attentive and can take good care of her. It’s best for Qiaoqiao to be with her.”
Su Mian snorted. Just then, Lu Rui returned. He first glanced at Su Mian and decided not to tell her about Qiaoqiao’s situation at school, then he called out to Jingzhi.
“Come to the study with me, I need to talk to you about something.”
Jingzhi didn’t think too much about it, assuming it was work-related, and followed Lu Rui to the study.
